Changing Lives, One Family at a Time

Today, we want to share the inspiring story of the Jambalos Family. The Jambalos family resides in a modest home in FTI, Taguig. Their bedroom, which serves as both their living and sleeping space, accommodates five family members, including their grandchild. The limited ventilation, due to a lack of windows, makes the space uncomfortably hot during the day. Despite these challenging living conditions, their resilience shines.

Jovi, the mother of the family, works as a street sweeper, while James, the father, serves as a security guard. Their children, Joven (in Grade 5) and James (in Grade 8), are both Mano Amiga scholars. Their living situation is particularly remarkable during the pandemic when all classes have transitioned to an online format.

Jovi attests that Mano Amiga has been a lifeline for them during these trying times. The organization provided essential support by lending them the necessary gadgets for online learning and supplying their community with much-needed food.

Jovi expresses her profound gratitude for the positive impact Mano Amiga has had on her children. She recalls how Joven, who used to be a shy child, has flourished into a self-confident young person with the support and guidance of Mano Amiga. James, who initially attended Mano Amiga in FTI before its relocation, has not only shared his talents but has also become a source of academic assistance to his fellow students.

For Joven, Mano Amiga's influence extends beyond academics; it has taught him how to navigate challenging situations, show empathy, and extend a helping hand to those in need. For James, he is deeply inspired by the kindness of the donors, who not only provide financial support but also instill the values of kindness and gratitude in the recipients.

Jovi is contented that her children are receiving their education at Mano Amiga, even though it is situated some distance away from their home.

Totoong sa Mano Amiga ay may ’Helping Hands.’ Tulungan na mai-angat ang isat-isa. Walang iwanan, academic man o spiritual.
— JOVITA JAMBALOS, MANO AMIGA PARENT
