Braveheart Easter Brunch: Celebrating Hope, Resilience, and Kindness
Last April 4, the Mano Amiga Scholars Club hosted an Easter Brunch at the Manila Polo Club to share stories on how the kindness and generosity of the donors and supporters have given hope and built resilience to the kids of Mano Amiga.
The gathering commenced with a warm welcome from our gracious hosts, Liane Ranin and Mj Pestano, who were also panelists at the previous Thanksgiving brunch.
Our Executive Director, Lynn Pinugu, delivered a powerful opening message, highlighting the importance of the message of Easter in giving Mano Amiga students and their families the "braveheart" spirit required to navigate the challenges and struggles they face.
Overcoming Obstacles with Hope and Grit
The highlight of the event was hearing directly from our students. Liane Ranin, the Scholars Club president, bravely shared her story about overcoming challenges, particularly when her family faced hardship due to her father's job loss. "It baffles me that there are individuals with such kind and pure hearts who lend a helping hand to those they barely know," Liane remarked, highlighting the profound impact of sponsors’ generosity on her life.
The event also featured a captivating panel discussion led by Lynn, joined by four exceptional students: Denise Solas, Lee Nathan Bonifacio, Jessy Po, and JC Intia. Each student shared their unique perspective on holding onto hope, perseverance, and the grace they find navigating everyday life.
JC's message of hope resonated with many, emphasizing the importance of looking forward to a brighter future. He expressed his deep appreciation for Mano Amiga, which has played a pivotal role in shaping him into the person he is today.
Jessy beautifully captured the essence of Mano Amiga, describing it as a place overflowing with love. He shared his experience serving others through school clubs, specifically mentioning his involvement in teaching children about God's message.
Lee's story highlighted the transformative power of kindness within the Mano Amiga community. He spoke about feeling welcomed and supported despite being new to the school. When asked what sets Mano Amiga apart, Lee pointed to the variety of programs that equip students with the tools and support they need to overcome challenges.
Denise shared her perspective on being a Mano Amiga scholar, emphasizing the importance of exploring one's potential and appreciating the kindness of others. Jessy further echoed this sentiment, highlighting sponsors as beacons of hope who provide scholars with the opportunity to receive high-quality education.
The program concluded with a powerful Easter message delivered by Fr. Simon. He reminded everyone that we are all champions because we are part of Christ's team, and He has already secured victory for us.
A Commitment to Empowerment
Reflecting on the impactful stories and messages shared during the Braveheart Easter Brunch, we are reminded of the profound influence of community, kindness, and unwavering support. Let us carry forward the spirit of this event throughout the year, continuing to inspire, uplift, and empower one another.
The brunch, co-organized by the Scholars Club, was a heartfelt occasion. While not all members were in attendance, they prepared a special song performance and heartfelt messages for the donors, singing "A Million Dreams." For them, this song represents the scholars' unwavering determination to pursue their dreams without ceasing. It embodies our shared commitment to striving for a brighter future and making the world a better place.
